I’m excited to be bringing to you today the beginning of a new series entitled “ By The Book.” But first a little bit of background about “ By The Book.”
When I was very young, a friend of my parents introduced me to an ancient book of wisdom that he said contained the secret of success in life.
In fact, this document was so valuable that it had managed to survive hundreds of years. Even though many people in power had tried to obliterate this book because they were fearful of the truths and the principles that it contained getting into the hands of the common people. Those who were in power wanted to maintain their control over others. Even today, there are those in positions of authority who are attempting to suppress and remove this book,
So there were many attempts to wipe out this book to; get rid of it through burning, outlawing its publication, and through confiscation of copies of this book.
Yet this book has managed to survive in spite of that opposition. I will be bringing those principles to you, because they have proved incredibly helpful to me, and I think they will for you also.
I have found that this book is so incredibly packed with life changing principles that I have read this document hundreds of times over the past 30 years. I have read this document daily, and continue to find amazing discoveries. I invite you to this journey with me, only you will have a 30 year head start.
This book is fairly small, maybe 50 to 60 pages in length, depending on size of print. Yet you could say that every line is packed with powerful principles.
I begin this series of “ By The Book” because I believe if we apply these principles to our lives. that we will achieve success in all areas of life whether that is with our families, with our friends, in our business dealings, in our health; in every area of life that it will impact them in a positive way.
We touched on one of these principles recently on the importance of clarity.
I believe that one of the key principles is knowing exactly what we’re to be about. Whether that relates to business, to our health, or in any area of life. We must ask what is the end in mind that we’re looking for.
What is it that we want to accomplish? You know we can’t be fuzzy and vague and expect to hit it. Zig Ziglar said that we can’t hit a goal that we don’t have. We have to be very clear, very focused on what is the end of mind, the end result that we want to accomplish and then keep that in front of us constantly and move towards that.
Let me ask you today. What is it that you are focused on? What is your goal? I encourage you to actually set goals in all areas of life: in your finances, in your health and fitness, in your key relationships, in your recreation, in all areas of life.
What is the goal that you’re shooting for? In the next 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, six months in a year. I encourage you to begin tracking your activity towards those. If you want to drink eight glasses of water a day. I encourage you to keep a chart handy. And every time you drink a glass of water check it off. That way you at the end of the day you know whether you’ve accomplished that goal or not.
The same is true in our exercise. If we keep records of what we’ve done, what we’ve accomplished and what we failed to accomplish, we can take corrective action the following day, and get a better result.
So what is your focus? What is your goal? What are you hoping to accomplish? Do you have clarity in your life?
That’s one of the key principles of living “By The Book.”
Let me encourage you to do that today and to begin asking yourself and answering the question, What am I focused on?
